Into the Shadows: Finding Power in What You’ve Hidden

There’s a version of you that has been tucked away — not because she’s unworthy, but because somewhere along the way, you were taught she was “too much.”

Too loud. Too wild. Too angry. Too needy. Too emotional.

So you trimmed yourself down to be more palatable, more digestible, more likable. And in doing so, you buried gold.

What Is Shadow Work?

Shadow work is the practice of bringing awareness to the parts of you that have been shamed, suppressed, or rejected. It’s not about fixing what’s broken. It’s about reclaiming what’s been forgotten.

Think of your shadow not as a flaw, but as a treasure chest. It holds your fire, your boundaries, your truth. The things that make you whole.

How Shadows Form

  • When you were told “good girls don’t get angry,” your rage was exiled.
  • When being sexy got you unwanted attention, your sensuality went underground.
  • When your sensitivity was mocked, you learned to numb.

Your shadow was born in those moments — not as a punishment, but as protection. Now, she’s ready to be seen.

Steps to Begin Shadow Work

  • Notice What Triggers You: Judgments of others often mirror what we’ve disowned in ourselves.
  • Journal Without Censorship: Let the messy, angry, jealous parts speak. They hold truth.
  • Welcome Emotions in the Body: Instead of analyzing, feel. Where does guilt live? What does shame want to say?
  • Create a Safe Ritual Space: Use movement, sound, or stillness to process and express.

This Is the Work of Wholeness

You cannot selectively numb. When you push down your shadow, you dull your light. But when you integrate — when you say “yes” to all of you — you become magnetic, grounded, undeniably whole.

The shadow isn’t your enemy. She’s your invitation. Not to become someone new — but to remember who you’ve always been.
