The Body Knows First: Trusting the Felt Sense Over Logic
Jul 18, 2025
Your body knew before you did.
Before your mind could analyze or strategize. Before the overthinking. Before the justification.
There was a flicker. A tightening. A quiet yes. A quiet no.
The body doesn’t lie. But most of us were never taught to listen.
Why We’ve Learned to Mistrust Ourselves
From a young age, many of us were conditioned to override our instincts:
- “Be polite.”
- “Don’t make a scene.”
- “You’re being too emotional.”
We internalized the message that logic is more trustworthy than sensation, and that safety comes from staying agreeable — even when something inside screamed otherwise.
So we got good at staying quiet. At explaining away the truth in our gut. At performing peace while feeling chaos.
But the body remembers. And it never stops speaking.
What Is the Felt Sense?
The felt sense is the language of the body — a deep, intuitive knowing that often shows up as:
- A lump in the throat before tears
- A contraction in the chest when something’s off
- A wave of warmth when you're safe
- A pull in your belly toward what’s right for you
It isn’t always logical. It often doesn’t make “sense.” But it’s real — and it’s wise.
Learning to trust it is an act of radical self-reclamation.
The Practice of Listening
You don’t need to “master” this.
You just need to begin.
Try this:
- Pause when something feels off. Ask: What am I sensing right now?
- Place one hand on your body and breathe into the space that’s speaking.
- Let your body’s cues lead — even if your mind can’t yet explain them.
When you do this often enough, something beautiful begins to unfold: You start making choices that align with truth — not fear. You move with more clarity, more ease. You soften into the wisdom that’s always lived inside you.
If You’re Out of Touch With Your Body, You’re Not Alone
Disconnection is normal in a world that rewards dissociation.
But reconnection is always possible.

You Don’t Need to Explain Your Truth
It’s enough to feel it. To let it move you. To let it guide you.
You are not too sensitive. You are not overreacting. You are not wrong for knowing — before the world confirms it.
Your body is your oracle. She is quiet, but she is clear. And she has never stopped speaking.
